Rusty: I think I’ve got the hang of this “toilet” thing! Now if I could only figure out how to flush!

Humans have been known to argue about what sort of place Heaven might be, or if it exists at all. For cats, Heaven is simply a warm blanket in a chair next to the window. Ash illustrates:
Here’s an even larger (1024×768) version of the above picture.
In lieu of our weekly picture of one or more of our cats, we present … Snake Under Glass.

Why is this posted in the cats category? Here’s the story:
Patty came in from the house one day to find all three cats circled excitedly around our kitchen table. They had trapped the little fellow you see in the above picture under the table. Patty trapped him under a Coke glass, and I released him into the bushes. No snakes or cats were harmed in the making of this picture.
I am still not sure how the little guy goy into the house, but we haven’t seen another one.
(Note: The “little guy” might be a “little gal” … but I don’t know how to tell them apart.)
Tom channels Jack Horkheimer, Star Hustler!
Keep … looking … up!
We don’t really own our things. They are just on a temporary loan from our real masters, the cats.
Rusty: This is my quilt. I don’t care if Patty thinks it’s hers!

When reading through the comments on this post on Pharyngula, it struck me that we are on the second of three holidays in the year that are exclusively devoted to the consumption of that most wonderful chemical – sucrose.
The three holidays differ seemngly only by the color scheme of the various sucrose-containing treats that they honor.
Date | Holiday | Color scheme |
Febriary 14 | Valentine’s Day | Red, pink, white |
April 16 (this year) | Easter | Pastels |
October 31 | Halloween | Orange, purple, black |
Ahh, sucrose. C12H22O11. Nothing puts a smile on a kid’s face faster than a basket full of sucrose-laden treats. You know, we could probably learn something from that. Instead of focusing on all the other morbid things people attach to the three days above, focus on the sugar. It’s the reason for the season!
Rusty celebrates Sucrose Day (#2) by curling up with a giant stuffed Peep!
One of the first models that beginning students learn to describe the shape of molecules is called VSEPR: Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion theory. The basic idea is that, since pairs of electrons and electrons that are in bonds to other atoms are negatively charged, they will try to push themselves as far apart from each other as possible.
There is evidence for similar behavior among cats, at least when the cats are all bonded to the same bowl of cat food. Here is pictoral evidence for CFBCR: Cat Food Bowl Cat Repulsion theory. Cats, when attracted to the same bowl of cat food, will arrange themselves so that they are as far apart as possible.
