The day I see …

The day I see fans of Richard Dawkins blocking the doors to the science building of my college pushing copies of The God Delusion in the same manner as the Gideons push their bibles is the day I will start taking the “atheism is a religion” folks more seriously.

The funny thing is, I’d say exactly the same thing to the Dawkins fans as I would to the Gideons:  Sorry, but I already have a copy.

I wonder a bit about the Gideons.  Is there anyone – and I mean anyone – in the state of South Carolina who does not have access to a Christian bible?  It seems to me that distributing bibles in this state is simply a waste of money.

One of these days I’ll install a fancy comment plugin – but I wasn’t aware until you mentioned it that the default didn’t even do strikethrough.

Another random thought: Why not distribute nice, bound copies of Leviticus – instead of the New Testament? Much more entertaining reading … 🙂

Some of the incoming international students don’t have bibles. But the Gideons are too late anyway; somehow the local churches get to them even before their departments do. I see incoming grad students showing up for orientation who have already joined a church (the local Baptist church gives international students free furniture, and then they feel the need to show up every Sunday for the next 6 years).

Of course, my school is a community college – which doesn’t get lots of international students. (There are a handful from our exchange program, but…)
