Today is Cate’s third birthday. Here she is enjoying one of her birthday presents (that she got a little early):
As we celebrate Cate’s birthday, let’s not forget that today is also Mole Day. So can chemists take the day off?

Here’s a picture of Cate having a Happy Day at Broadway at the Beach.
Broadway at the Beach has added a bunch of old rides from the Pavilion and called it the Pavilion Nostalgia Park. While i never went to the Myrtle Beach Pavilion while it was open, the rides do remind me a lot of what you could ride at the county fair when I was a little kid.
I expect a recording contract to show up in the mail soon.
What do you think?
The road between Cate’s daycare and our house has been under construction for some time, since a new bridge over the highway is being built. So Cate sees a lot of earth movers, bulldozers, and so forth – and has become quite fascinated with them. She comments every day on the “tractors” and how much she likes them.
She also likes my computer. And if I let her use my Ebay account, I’m sure that she would probably do this:
A New Zealand couple nearly found themselves in a financial hole when their three-year-old daughter bought an earthdigger in an internet auction.
The child, Pipi Quinlan, was trying out her online skills while her parents were asleep in bed.
As Cate would say: “I want one tractor! For me!”
It doesn’t snow very much down in these parts of South Carolina. There’s so little snow here that today was Cate’s first time to see snow anywhere other than on the television.
It’s good that the college was closed, since that meant that we could stay howm today and allow Cate to enjoy the snow with us.
Cate enjoyed the snow quite a bit. She was so wild abut the snow that we ended up taking her outside about four different times over the course of the day. Cate has also learned the basics of the snowball fight – how to make snowballs, and how to throw them at things. At the moment, she prefers large, stationary targets to moving ones.
I wonder if there will be any snow left for Cate to play in tomorrow afternoon.
Friends and family members – if you’re looking for a few more recent pictures of Cate, my friends Richard and Kathy have posted a bunch of new pictures of Cate playing with their daughter Mya.
I’ve been asked a few times to post a recent picture of Cate. So, here it is!
As you can see, she’s a little blonde tornado, cutting a wide path of destruction through the house!
If you’re disappointed with the quality of the picture above, don’t worry. Using an advanced high-speed camera, Patty was able to obtain a nice picture of Cate helping to wash the car.
Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles …
Pet-sitter for hire! Will work for a bottle of milk!
Of all our cats, Ash is the most laid-back. Usually, she’s the only one who will allow Cate to pet or otherwise touch her. Sometimes Cate takes a little too much advantage of this, as you can see above.
I guess Cate hasn’t yet learned that Ash is not a park bench!
According to the National Weather Service, it’s now official:
It’s snowing. We’ve been in this house a number of years, but this is the first time any snow has fallen on it since we moved in. We don’t get much snow in this part of the state, obviously.
This is also the first time we’ve had snow fall since Cate was born. It’s unfortunate that Cate won’t get to enjoy the snow. She’s old enough to run around in it, but our little bit of snow isn’t sticking to anything except the roof of my Jeep.
That little bit of snow will be gone before morning.
Oh well. If Cate can’t enjoy the “snow storm”, at least she could enjoy a spaghetti storm!
This is what happens when you feed spaghetti to a fourteen-month-old. Readers without kids yet … you were warned!
The Shrimp and Grits family hopes you’re having a ball this Christmas!
Yes, Cate really did help to hang decorations on the tree this year.
Later, she removed at least as many from the tree as she hung!
